The new account the City of Idaho Falls asks for, and what its permit page leaves out about a block wall
By Artigellence ·
An April 1, 2024 notice on the City of Idaho Falls' Apply for a Permit page says Cityworks will replace its eTrakit online system and that everyone will need to set up a new account before applying for permits or scheduling inspections. The page does not mention a wall, so it says nothing about what a block wall needs. The permit text page and the rules check carry the rest.

What the notice says
The notice on the City's page carries the date April 1, 2024. It says that to streamline the building permit review process, and better serve the development community, the City is introducing new Cityworks software, and that Cityworks will replace the previous system of eTrakit online.
Who needs the new account?
The page says everyone will need to set up a new account before applying for permits or projects or scheduling inspections.
What if I had an account on the old system?
The page says that if you had a previous account with eTrakit Online, using the same email address as your eTrakit Online account will link your permits and projects from eTrakit associated with that email, and that email addresses on Cityworks accounts cannot be changed once an account is set up.
What the page leaves open
Does the page say anything about a wall?
No. It does not mention a block wall or any wall. It prints a code section on permits for a building or structure and links a document titled Work Exempt from a Building Permit, which we have not read.
What can the account be used for?
The page lists applying for permits, scheduling inspections and checking inspection results among the services available through Cityworks.
What could change
The City can change its system and its pages. This site keeps the date the pages were read, October 7, 2026. Read the City's current pages before you rely on anything here, and ask the City's building office what applies to a project.
